These guys living in Switzerland have been looking for the right home for a few years, always with a positive mindset and an endless patience; and finally there it was, THE house for them, flooded with sunshine and surrounded by Beauty. It was just there waiting for them. A contemporary villa with pool and with a truly breathtaking view on Bellagio and Balbianello promontories: pretty difficult not fall in love with it!

Your property search at Lake Como took quite a long time. How was this research overall?
The conversations with Sara started in late 2019 and we began visiting properties in 2020. In mid 2020 we “thought” we found our dream home. Due to circumstances beyond Lakeside Real Estate and our control, this house was not meant to be. We firmly believed there was another home even better out there for us to buy. Then COVID hit and made our property search a challenge; however, Sara and her team stayed in touch via email as new listings became available. Sara knew our wish-list and was always honest about the properties and in answering our questions.
In mid 2021 we noticed Sara had a property on her website that was intriguing to us but something we had not originally considered as a possibility. We contacted Sara to get more information on the house, made several visits and ultimately decided to put in an offer. Once the final offer was accepted, we began the formal process of buying the house. During the process Sara was informed that further paperwork needed to be submitted and approved in Milan and at the Municipality levels and this became a time-consuming process for the owners. As the saying goes, “good things come to those who wait” and with great patience our dream finally became a reality. In November 2022 we closed on our home. This property really ticked all the boxes and then some on our wish list including a breathtaking view of the lake and mountains.
Do you think it's easy to buy a property at Lake Como overall? Did you find any difficulty/challenge along the way?
I would say it’s not that difficult. Sara and her team made the closing of our house seamless and effortless. As well, we had support setting up our bank account, utilities, and taxes, and guidance for future house projects.
Tell us a bit about your story. Why have you chosen Lake Como as a location for buying your second home in Italy? Did you know the area before? Have you explored the rest of Italy?
For the past 9 years we visited our friends who have a holiday home in Mezzegra. We live in Switzerland so the drive door to door is 3.5 hours and easily doable for a weekend get-away or a quick 2-hour train ride to Como city.
We enjoyed exploring Tremezzina and the surrounding areas with our friends and throughout the years became familiar with this region while enjoying the lake view and stunning mountains. It was slowly starting to feel like home!
We had traveled throughout Italy and looked at other areas for a holiday home but it became clear that Mezzegra was convenient and the best fit for us.
Our conversations went from dreaming about owning a home in Mezzegra to our friends introducing us to Sara at Lakeside Real Estate. Our friends used Lakeside Real Estate to buy their holiday home and had great faith and trust in their quality service and professionalism.
What did you know about Lake Como / what was your perception of the lake from ABROAD?
We still pinch ourselves realizing we now have a home in Italy. Growing up in “small town” Canada, Lake Como was something we would see in movies and magazines, on television shows or read about in novels. It seemed like a fantasy location rather than an obtainable reality.
Our home is in a very quiet area and the views of the lake and mountains pull at your heart strings and fill your soul with calmness. We are immersed in the Italian culture and away from the tourism of the larger cities and various towns dotted along the lake. However, we can easily visit these areas and enjoy the festivals, restaurants and wine bars.
What do you feel like recommending to foreign clients who are looking for their second home at Lake Como?
For foreign clients looking to buy a second home on Lake Como we say… be patient! Do not settle and be clear on your wish list and what are your deal breakers. Sara did not want us to settle and was determined to find us the perfect property which she certainly delivered on!
We like to think of all newly-bought properties as new awesome chapters in the life of our buyers. And all new chapters deserve a song! Is there a song you link to your lovely new home in Mezzegra?
When we drove up to our new house for the very first time the song, “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran was playing. Although this is a song about relationships it still metaphorically holds a lot of truth with our connection to our new home. In our hearts we know it is PERFECT!
